BRING Home and Garden Tour: the Art of Sustainable Living
Sunday, September 16, 10 am-4 pm
We're thinking "small" this year. From a TINY house on wheels to cozy remodels and additions that make the most of their city lots, tour goers will get a first-hand view of living on an efficient scale.
Among the 12 sites is a down-to-the-studs remodel in the East University neighborhood, designed as a testing ground for sustainable building in practice. Nearby is Eugene's first certified Passive House, featuring an array of sustainable features as well as organic gardens, chickens, and guesthouse. At another site, an extensive remodel was designed with "aging in place" in mind.
Past tour goers may recognize two of the sites, which were under construction in previous years. You won't want to miss seeing the finished products.
Delightful Gardens
First time on the Tour is BRING's own Garden of Earthly Delights, newly accredited by Oregon Tilth's Organic Land Care program. The Garden features a mix of unusual edibles, perennials, and native plants, along with creative reuse in the garden. One or two TINY houses will be at BRING for the week leading up to the Tour. Stop in for a preview.
Garden lovers will enjoy three intensive urban gardens, combining edible and landscape plants, with ideas for attracting beneficial insects, composting kitchen waste, and nurturing native species.
As always, several sites will feature workshops. Designers, builders, and homeowners will be on hand, too.
