Perishable food can’t be taken in moving trucks because they are not equipped with refrigeration. It’s important to plan on eating your food before moving day if you want to avoid any refrigerated or frozen items going to waste.
2. Wine or Beer
While some companies will allow wine and beer to be transported, it’s generally not a good idea unless there is some sort of refrigeration built in. Most trucks get incredibly hot, especially during the summer months, and won’t keep wines and beers at ideal temperatures. This can turn them bad and ruin your efforts to take them in the first place.
3. Large Televisions
Large televisions sometimes require specialty moving companies because they are so delicate. However, if you are determined to do this yourself, you should equip yourself with moving blankets, plastic wrap, and helpers. By making a plan and having the right materials, you’ll be less likely to damage your television.
4. Flammables
Flammable items are not allowed in moving trucks since they increase the risk of fire. If you have these, you can get rid of them by looking into recommended dumping stations in your local area. You can also give them to friends or family that may need to use them in the future.
5. Plants
Live plants are normally banned from transport since some states and cities don’t allow certain types of plants. You should also avoid bringing fertilizer and weed killer since these can damage your belongings if they were to spill out of a box.
6. Animals
Live animals cannot be transported inside of moving trucks because these are not climate controlled and do not have air passing through. If you are traveling a long distance, you will have to make plans for alternative transportation. This can mean either driving them or flying them, depending on what works best for you.
7. Extra Delicate Items
Items that are incredibly delicate and likely to break should be taken with you rather than loaded onto the moving truck. Even if you pack something well, bumps in the road or accidents can cause these to break in an instant. You’ll have more peace of mind if the items you love the most are with you in a safe spot.
8. Items that Require Extra Insurance
If you own high-value artwork, jewelry, coats, or anything else that you have extra insurance on, you shouldn’t transport it through traditional moving trucks. Instead, you’ll want to talk to your insurance company about the best option that they recommend for your policy.
9. Chemicals
Chemicals, such as heavy-duty cleaning agents and solvents, can’t be put in boxes for moving trucks. Even if they are sealed, they could fall down and leak into the truck, which could cause damage to your other belongings. It’s best to give these things away or dispose of them properly before moving day.
10. Aerosols
Aerosols of any kind are not allowed in most moving trucks because they can explode with changes in the elevation. Hairspray, spray deodorant, air fresheners, and any other aerosol style of container should be separated and moved with you. If you don’t have space to take these things with you, then give them to friends or family.
